The Logic Of Solar Parking Lot Lights
Apr 26th, 2009 by admin
Parking lot lights are an incidental cost of doing business when parking is required. They’re there because of reasons of safety and convenience and other than that are unrelated to the core business of corporate complexes, malls, hotels and resorts, or any other bricks and mortar venture.
Parking lot lights are needed so people can safely enter and exit a parking lot after dark and one would only need to be served a lawsuit from a plaintiff claiming negligence to see that proper night lighting in a parking lot is the responsibility of both the business and the property owner.
Parking lot lights that are installed using conventional power are expensive to install. Trenches need to be laid open, electrical cables installed, and meters connected. When hook ups to grid power are required the placement of lights is usually limited to straight lines because the lights follow the lines of the trench but that’s not always the best placement of the lighting. But because the placement of the lighting, when deviating from the straight line is usually cost prohibitive, that’s where the planners put them so those nooks and crannies where the lights should really be placed are ignored.
The answer is to install solar powered parking lot lights. You can locate them where they’re needed most and not have to fool with the most cost effective path of the straight-line trenching. Besides having the legitimate opportunity to promote the green aspects of the property or business which can create good will in the community, the installation costs far outweigh parking lot lighting that is hooked up to the grid. Tenants inherit the ability to promote the green aspects of their business and since they are typically assessed monthly for the CAM (common area maintenance charges), they save on a monthly basis as well. It’s a win-win situation.
Each solar parking lot light works off its own solar factory. Each one is a clean, closed system using solar panels, a converter to convert the solar energy into electricity, a battery for storing that electricity and a powerful LED (light emitting diode). Each light works from power generated independently from every other light in the parking lot so in the event of a power outage, your parking lot is still well lit.
And probably one of the biggest reasons to consider lighting the parking lot with solar lights is because behind every single conventional parking lot light is the distinct possibility that its power is coming from a coal fired power plant or some other means of generating electricity that is not necessarily the safest or cleanest. Solar powered parking lot lights on the other hand are powered from a clean, renewable energy source—the sun.
Solar powered parking lot lights will operate for years without any maintenance; they are self regulating and hassle free. Conventional lighting requires that bulbs be replaced on a regular basis but the LED bulbs in solar lighting will last for years. There is no logical reason for new developments, parks and recreational areas not to have economical, safe and reliable solar lighting. Think solar powered parking lot lights for total peace of mind!
